My apologies

Journal Entry: Tue Apr 4, 2017, 7:43 AM
Hey all...
I've been mostly on Instagram and Facebook these days so I apologize for such a delayed response to all of my messages.
I'll post some pics soon to show you guys what's been going on lately.
My wife and I head to Monsterpalooza this week for the first time.
We are attending not showing...should be a blast.
It's going to be fun to see friends I already know and meet new ones in person that I've only
known through social media.
We have two new kittens and a new rescue dog.
The two black kittens are brother and sister, Neko and Olive.
The rescue dog is Boomer...such a cutie. I'll post pics of them.
Just finished working on a 2/3 size Kodiak bear...I'll post pics of that too.
Getting ready to enjoy spring and summer.
Chickens are all still laying eggs.
No ducks this year because we decided to fill in the pool.
We do have two that still visit because they know we'll feed them.
Well, back to my coffee.
Again, I apologize for my absence.
My best to you all!
Take care,

I'm a slacker

Greetings all!
It's been a very long time since I've posted on here and I apologize for being absent for so long.
I still keep an eye on things but I haven't contributed like I should be.
Today's Daily Deviation inspired me to write a journal post.
I am blown away by an artist I haven't seen before. Check out :iconplan-be:
His work is amazing.
Other than that I'm finishing up on some commission work and enjoying the spring weather and going on nature rides.
It's been a tough few years of loss...People and pets but I'm slowly picking myself up and moving forward more rapidly.
Hope all of you have been great and I wish you all the best for the rest of the year!
Take care,

Happy New Year 2016!

Journal Entry: Thu Dec 31, 2015, 1:52 PM
Hi all,
I've been extremely absent from Deviant Art lately and I apologize for that.
I'm on FB a bit more but I still haven't been posting a lot of art there either.
We went through some pretty tough lows starting in August of 2014 but I'm hoping that
2016 makes up for all the shit. :)
We've had some good times as well, so not all was bad.
Just wanted to get on here and wish all my pals here on DA an incredibly Happy New Year.
Wishing you all much happiness, health, abundance and wealth in the years to come!
All my best to you,
Take care,

Hello to all of my DA pals,

Had a great conversation last night with my buddy Jerome Ranft who sculpts for Pixar. It was such a huge compliment when he asked permission to use some of my images for an upcoming concept/character development sculpting class he is going to be teaching there at Pixar. He wants to use my large mouth bass, the vulture, and a few more. Wohoooo! If you go to and click on 'Behind the Scenes' you can see an interview with Jerome under the 'sculpting' category. He's a great guy, good friend,  and an incredible sculptor!

Hope you all have an incredible weekend!
Thanks for all the great messages, faves, watches, Llama Badges, and such!
All my best to you,

Happy Fall!

Journal Entry: Sun Sep 28, 2014, 9:23 AM
Hello my DA pals!
Once again I've let a long time pass between journals and I apologize.
Can't believe how fast this summer zipped by.
I'm not ready for the cooler temps yet, but I do love the changing colors.

I finished my Frankenstein Bust and put some small improvements to it since I
posted the picture of it. I'll be moulding and casting it. The first casting goes to my buddy Dom over
in Ireland. Maybe I need to hand deliver it? Get it? Randy Hand? Hand deliver?...damn I'm funny.

We've been getting regular visitors in our back yard. Raccoons, skunks, hawks, squirrels, ducks, blue jays, finches, etc. etc.
I decided I shouldn't be allowing squirrels to take walnuts from my hands any I just set the nuts down and let them pick for
themselves. I've gotten scratched a few times by over zealous squirrels, but not bitten yet. Don't want to take that chance any more.
Our chickens are doing great. We were getting 3 eggs a day but they've slowed down a bit with the shorter days. We're thinking of
getting 3 more chickens this spring. They've been a source of entertainment all summer.

Just had to change the channel from an awful thing that was on TV.
Joel Osteen had just come on. I can't believe the size of the audience on his morning church show.
A friend of my wife's said that she attended one of his 'services' in Denver at the Pepsi Center.
She said they were passing 5 gal. buckets down the aisles that were crammed full of money.
P.T. Barnum was right. :)
I may just start my own mega-church. I'll call it the  Church of the Holy Talk To The Hand.

Getting prepared for a good commission at the end of the year.
It's going to consist of realistic Alaskan wildlife.
The client needs to figure out the scale, but the subject matter will be a moose, a deer, a bear with a salmon in it's mouth, a bald eagle, and a seal.
It's going to be a challenge to not take it to the cartoon level, but I'll resist.

I've been doing patinas on bronzes for people too.
I can make good money so I thought since I have all the equipment and the studio to do it, why not?
It's nice to have something to keep me out of trouble between commissions.

Well, I'd better be a little productive and get this day going.
Thanks for all the new watches, faves, llama badges, and messages!
All my best to you,
Take care,

A Sad End To Summer

Journal Entry: Wed Sep 3, 2014, 1:27 PM
Hello to all my pals here on DA.
I've been neglecting my account here but will try to answer all of my messages as soon as is humanly possible.
I'll be out of commission for a bit because of a tragic loss that we have experienced.
My best friend Bjorn lost his ex-wife and their 3 boys in a horrible plane wreck on Sunday the 31st of August.
Bjorn is like a brother to us and his ex-wife Tori was like a sister to us.
His boys were the closest thing we will ever have to wanting kids. We loved them dearly.
Mason who was 15, and the twins Austin and Hunter were 11.
We would really appreciate all the love, support, prayers, and healing energy sent towards Bjorn here in Colorado.
He can use all the help he can get right now.
He lost his whole family in an instant.
All my best to you,
Take care,

Happy Spring and almost Summer!

Journal Entry: Sat May 24, 2014, 11:53 AM
Wow...I just realized it's been since Easter that I posted a new journal entry.
I've been spending more (too much probably) time on Facebook so I apologize for my absence from Deviant Art.
I've been working on some small commission work in addition to doing some freelance patina work for people that bring me their
bronzes. It's nice to stay in touch with the outside world. (outside meaning outside my studio)
I tend to get a little too used to working by myself so I have to force myself to get out in to the public and
not be such a recluse. It is nice to be able to wear sweats and stink without any repercussions. Except for my wife though. :)

It's looking like I'll be getting some big commission work by the end of the year. One of my favorite clients in Kauai wants me to sculpt
some realistic wildlife for an exhibit at the garden's there. She hasn't decided on scale but it will probably be 1/2 to 1/3 scale.
There will be a bald eagle, deer, moose, seal, and a bear with a salmon in it's mouth.
Should be a challenge and fun as well.
As many of you know I pretty much do whimsical, and fantasy kind of work so this will push my abilities as an artist.

My wife and I have been enjoying the first part of spring and are looking forward to summer as well.
We've already been on some great bike rides and nature walks.
We get daily duck visits at our house here but now it's turned in to squirrel mayhem.
I created some monsters by feeding our squirrels walnuts by hand.
They come running to me whenever I come outside now and will hang out on my lap if
I let them.
I might become the Willard of the squirrel world and have them do my bidding.
Don't cross me. :)

It's always fun to be able to meet fellow Deviant Artists in person and last week was no exception.
Ray Lin aka :iconartanis-one:
brought his buddy Mike here to visit and hang out and meet our 'kids'. (furry ones)
Two great guys and incredibly talented to boot!
It always gets me fired up to hang out with fellow sculptors.
Except Tim Miller of course. I somehow feel violated every time we meet in person.

Should be finishing up the Seahorse this week and bringing my bust titled Count Veektor to the mould maker.
I've got too many pieces just sitting in the studio collecting dust and I need to get off my butt and get them in production.

Okay, back to the studio. My cat decided my lap and my laptop computer is where he wants to nap right now. Extrmelyz deffixult to typr now
Thanks for all the messages, faves, llama badges, new watches and support!
All my best,
Enjoy your Memorial Day Weekend!
Take care,

Happy Easter!!!

Journal Entry: Sun Apr 20, 2014, 6:47 AM
Happy Easter to anyone that celebrates it in their own unique way!
Today my beautiful wife and I will be coloring eggs and enjoying the beautiful weather.
I'll be posting pictures of our efforts when they are all done.

Not much new to report.
I'm finishing up on an octopus sculpt that someone commissioned me to do.
Getting ready to sculpt a seahorse so that should be fun.
Also, I'm going to be sculpting a small bald eagle which will be cast in pewter. Normally I'm not much for realistic wildlife but
this should be challenging.

Well, I'd better get my fingers limbered up for the egg coloring festivities that will begin shortly.
Thanks for all the new watches, messages, faves, llama badges and support!
All my best to you,
Take care,

Happy All Fools Day!

Journal Entry: Tue Apr 1, 2014, 10:58 AM
How come Deviant Art isn't doing any pranks this year? I kind of enjoyed them.
I remember when they changed every one's avatar to Team Twilight characters.
Maybe too many people freaked out when their accounts were messed with.

Hope every one's spring is off to a good start.
Our ducks are back. Only a male and a female so far but the numbers should
increase as the females are ready to mate. We get some pretty crazy fights in the pool
when they start mating. We've had big chunks of feathers floating around from the
boy battles.

Just finished coloring a monkey for my good friend Nicole, aka :iconwingdthing:
She asked for some unusual colors so it was really a blast to work on it. I'm going to be throwing in a little surprise with it
that she won't know about until it arrives. :)
I'll post pix when I'm able to.

Coming down from The Walking Dead season finale...Whew what a ride!
It's always a bummer to see it go for the summer but now we started watching Mad Men on Netflix so that's
going to help a little.

Finished coloring The Skeptical Turtle and will be dropping it
off at the shippers so it can make it's way to Kauai.
Can't wait to hear how she likes it when it arrives.

I'd better get off this computer and back in to the studio.
Thanks again for all the messages, new watches, faves etc. !
Take care,

Ready for Spring...:)

Journal Entry: Fri Mar 7, 2014, 9:30 AM
Can't wait for the pool ice to melt so our annual duck onslaught can begin.
We're supposed to get near 70 degrees this weekend so that should help.
Right now it's snowing though. I'm always amazed at Colorado's schizophrenic weather patterns and I love it.

The Skeptical Turtle should be in metal next week.
Once I get it in my studio I can color it and ship it off to Kauai.
I'll post pictures of the finished piece.

I'm sculpting a base for the Little Dragon and Knight piece.
I felt it needed something more than just those two figures on a wooden base.
Progress shots to follow soon.

I'm still in the process of sculpting an octopus that will fit on the top of a
nice keepsake box. I'm really happy with how it's looking.
Pix of that to follow soon as well.

I've also been working on pieces for a company here in town. Their name is Secret Compass and they
deal in action figures, movie props, all sorts of stuff.  Check out their site at
Right now I'm finishing up on a couple of Star Trek Phaser Rifles.
I'll try to post shots of those as well.
I've worked on a Predator, Spiderman, World of Warcraft figures, Aliens2 Pulse Rifle, and the list goes on.
The nice thing is I can take everything home to my studio to work on.

A warning to fellow artists out there.  There is a guy named Matthew Christopher Nelson who has been taking peoples images, even shots of sculptures and manipulating them in Photoshop and then calling them his own. He had an account here on DA but it's been shut down. His Facebook page has been shut down as well. He is a slime and a ripoff artist. He had a Kickstarter project completely funded and ready to go that would publish an 'original' art book. Luckily they got enough complaints so it was halted. I saw an image of a sculpt by Aris Kolokontes that he used a fresco filter on among other really 'artistic' effects and then he claimed it as his own. Do a google search of his name and see if he has any other accounts and look for your work on those sites. He's running scared right now.

Well, I'd better get my butt in to the studio and get some work done.
Thanks to all of you for the great messages, new watches, faves, Llama badges, cake badges for my birthday, and for all your support!
Have a great weekend!
Take care,

Nighty Night got a Daily Deviation!!!

Journal Entry: Wed Feb 5, 2014, 7:46 AM
I woke this morning to a very full message box...Woohoooo!!!
My piece 'Nighty Night' got a Daily Deviation!
A big thanks goes to Rich aka :iconthe-build: for featuring it.

It's been a great 2014 so far.
Finishing up on some commission work and ready to tear in to my
new pile of ideas. Every so often I'll check Craigslist for anything interesting as far as
art jobs in my area. An ad caught my eye that read 'Building Models/fixing broken figures.'
I called without realizing it had only been posted an hour before. Shane started this business a few
years ago and it's called Secret
We talked on the phone and I guess after our conversation, he took the ad down.
I'm fixing all sorts of things from action figures to movie prop replicas. My first week I worked on an
M41A Pulse Rifle from the movie Aliens. It's challenging and fun plus I get to work in my studio.
It's funny because they carry things that were sculpted by my buddies. Trevor Grove, Mark Newman, Tim Miller and Randy Bowen just
to name a few.

Right now it's -14 degrees here in Fort Collins....I'm so ready for spring.

Well, I'd better get some more caffeine in me and get this day started.
Thanks again to all of you for the great messages, new watches, faves and llama badges!
All my best to you,
Take care,

Happy New Year Ya'll!

Journal Entry: Wed Jan 1, 2014, 8:21 AM
Just a quick journal entry to wish all my pals here on Deviant Art an incredible 2014!
Hope the New Year brings you all the things you deserve!
All my best to you,
Take care,

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Thank You!

Journal Entry: Tue Dec 24, 2013, 8:08 AM
Just wanted to wish all my pals here on Deviant Art a very Merry Christmas, if you celebrate it.
Also wishing you all a very prosperous and happy New Year!
I also wanted to thank my anonymous DA pal for the free year of premium membership.
Whoever you are, that was so kind and thoughtful and I really appreciate it. (changing journal skin now)

2013 was filled with ups and downs...mostly ups I'm happy to say.

We weren't able to do our Thanksgiving tradition of a Lord of the Rings marathon since
we were in Kauai so we decided to blaze through them for Christmas.
We may even do a Sopranos marathon in honor of James Gandolfini.
Nothing says Merry Christmas like wizards and gangsters.

I'm getting ready to sculpt an octopus.
I wouldn't normally sculpt one but I'm doing a trade with the person who re-did my website and
she said she likes octopus so I'm going to sculpt my first one for her.
It will be realistic and not cartooney so that will be good for me to do something different.

Well, better get some caffeine in this system of mine.
Thanks for all the new watches, faves, messages, and llama badges!
Wishing you all the best for 2014!
Take care,

Hello all,
So sorry for my lack of journal updates.
I used to be pretty regular (not referring to my bowels) at posting journals here on DA but by the looks of it I haven't posted since Halloween?
Shame on me.
I'll try to be better.

I recently took part in an interview with my good buddy Rich aka :iconthe-build:
Please check it out here:…
It was a lot of fun to do and I hope you enjoy it as well.

My wife and I just got back from a surprise trip to Kauai a few weeks ago.
Surprise meaning that if you would have asked me at the beginning of November whether or not I was planning any trips for 2013 I would have told you no.
One of my favorite clients in Kauai needed the coloring re-done on an 18 ft. tall sculpture of Jack and the Beanstalk.
She wanted it done in a hurry and said that she'd fly me there, lodge and feed me and pay for my rental car.
It took me a mili-second to say "YES!!!!!!"
I told her instead of paying me for the patina, she could fly my wife out as well.
It took her a mili-second to say yes as well.
It took me 3 1/2 days to finish the patina so the rest of the two weeks there, I could enjoy the island and all it's beauty.
It was such a gift to be able to go back sooner than we had planned.
The only down side was coming back to sub-zero weather.
I think my skin has aged 20 years being back here in Colorado.

Finishing up on the Skeptical Turtle piece. I'll be posting final clay shots soon.

Also, if anyone is interested, I'm selling many of my pieces in unpainted kit form.
I'm hoping to get my Count Veektor molded soon so I can sell him as a kit as well.
Send me a note if any of that sounds like something you'd be interested in.

Great to have a full time Sculpture Gallery Moderator here on Deviant Art again.
Rich did a great job before and now he's back and keeping the sculpture category in tip top shape again.

Well, better get some caffeine in this broken down body of mine.
Thanks again to all of you for your messages of support, watches, faves and llama badges!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Take care,
Hey Everybody,
Just a quick journal to wish you all a Happy Halloween!
Have fun, be safe, eat lots of candy, scare some kids, don't get caught doing whatever wrong thing you're planning on doing.
Thanks again for all the messages, faves, and watches!

It's been a strange and sad week.
Last week I got a call from my Mom telling me that my cousin from Minnesota got killed in a hunting accident.
Later in the week we found out that his death was ruled a suicide.
A few years ago my cousin Rick and I hooked up after not seeing each other for many years.
He made a trip out here to Colorado so it was great to see him after all this time.
We got to drive to the mountains, do some sight seeing, and just hang out and catch up.
I've never had anyone close to me commit suicide so it's pretty surreal, sad, and confusing.
I feel so bad for his wife, my aunt and uncle, cousins and other family.
He didn't leave a note or anything so that's got to be so tough on them.

I wish for anyone that is feeling that low or hopeless the ability to see that things are never so bad that
you can't come back to a happier and balanced and grounded life.

Just looked at my latest journal posting and it was back on June 21st. I'm hanging my head in shame right now.
I apologize for neglecting my journal, but I still make sure to answer all my messages and check for others deviations and journals etc.
I've been using Facebook more than updating my journals here and there's no damn excuse for that.
I did update and improve my website recently if you get a chance to check it out.
Let me know what you think and if you have any criticism (not Tim Miller though) please feel free to let loose.
It's been showing up kind of funky on some computers, but haven't heard too many complaints other than some grammatical suggestions etc.
My wife and I caught up on all the Breaking Bad episodes to the point of only having the last two to watch through to the end.
So glad we watched all of them. Can't wait to get all the seasons on Blu-ray.
We are excited for tomorrow's Walking Dead return....oh boy oh boy oh boy!
Working on some new pieces...a 30 inch tall turtle sitting on a rock with a 'skeptical' look on it's face.
My client in Kauai is having me do that one so it's always fun to do work for her.
Finishing up the Monsters Under the Bed piece.
I had to work all the way around it since the view from the front is all that's done on it.
Speaking of that piece, I'm excited to get my copy of Spectrum 20 in the mail.....
Getting ready to go to The Melting Pot with good friends. Loosening my belt loops now.
Okay, gonna pour a glass of wine and relax.
Thanks for all the new watches, faves, comments, and llamas!
Have a great weekend!
Take care,

Hope everyone's summer is off to a great start!
I just realized I haven't posted a journal in quite some time so here goes...

10 years ago today my wife and I got married on the beach on the Riviera Maya in Mexico.
Yesterday we took the top off our jeep and cruised up in to the Rocky Mountains.
When we got back home we watched the dvd from our wedding.
Such a nice relaxing day with the love 'o' my life!

Getting ready to tear in to new projects as I wait for other pieces to make their way through the foundry process.
Not sure what I want to start on first. Usually helps to grab a lump of clay and let the mood take me.

We recently got hooked on Fringe thanks to our friend Ted.
We've been blazing through the episodes on Netflix.
There's a few little cheesy spots scattered here and there, but all in all, we really like how original it is.

I still can't believe James Gandolfini is dead. Gonna have to get our Sopranos box set out and watch all the episodes again to pay tribute in our own way.
Such a sad and terrible loss.

I lapsed on paying my membership here on DA and have gotten used to the pop up ads on my site.
They really don't bother me...Maybe I'll just donate the money to my favorite charity... The Randy Hand Beer and Wine Foundation.

A few weeks back my older brother was rushed/airlifted to a Denver hospital because of a clot near the base of his brain in his carotid artery.
It was touch and go there for a bit and very frightening.
He's back home now and recovering but it definitely makes one appreciate what they've got.
He's only 2 years older than me so those kinds of things always freak me out.

We went to Comedy Works in Denver a few weeks ago to catch the stand up act of Dave Attel.
We were in tears from laughing so hard. His humor is so wrong but so right.
What does that say about us?...hmmmm.

Okay, time to get in the studio and get inspired.
Thanks for all the new watches, messages, and faves!
Have a great weekend everyone!

Spectrum 20...Wooohooooo!!!

Journal Entry: Sat Mar 30, 2013, 10:39 AM
Just found out moments ago on Facebook that I made it in to the upcoming Spectrum 20 book!
Nighty Night Nighty night by RandyHand is the only one I entered this year.
I'm thinking I'll probably  submit this same image unless I can come up with a better one.
I was hoping this would make it in since it didn't make it in to the Deviant Art contest (cough...joke)

Spring is here and I am one happy camper.
Our ducks are back again.
Been bike riding already.

I've finished sculpting the Little Dragon and am working on the character that goes with it.
I'm really happy with how it turned out.
Pictures to follow soon.

I repaired and colored a resin cast rooster aka, 'Ladies?' for the third time.
UPS really likes to pay claims.
I'm amazed they haven't suffered financial ruin as much as the US Postal service has.
They broke the end of the longest tail feather the first time.
Sent it back.
They broke the whole tale section and tail feather the second time.
Sent it back.
My shipper thinks that sending it freight will be our best option.
Idiots! (UPS I mean)

Getting ready to do our annual Easter Egg coloring.
Always fun.

Gotta get back in to the studio.
Happy Easter to anyone and everyone who celebrate it in their own way!

Thanks as always for the great comments, new watches, and faves!

This just in...

Journal Entry: Sat Mar 2, 2013, 3:36 PM
Sunday March 3rd will be a momentous day.
It is the day of my birth.
Don't get me anything too fancy or expensive please.
I'm registered at Tiffany's and Home Depot.

My wife and I walked around Fort Collins last night for First Fridays Art Walk.
Got to see some great work.
It was nice to connect with other artists and feel that energy again.

We had one of our kitties in for an operation last week and they removed a lump on her chest that
got sent in for analysis. We found out yesterday she's free and clear of any cancer so that made our day!

Getting ready to go out dancing with my wife and Bjorn and a bunch of other friends so
I may be a bit tired tomorrow morning.
I even painted some shoes so they weren't just some boring brown leather shoes...they turned out pretty cool.
I'll post pix soon.

Well, better go do some stretching to prepare me for the dance floor.
I've been told that I'm a cross between Michael Barishnikov and Pee Wee Herman as far as my skills go.

Hope you all have a great weekend!
Thanks for all the great messages, watches, and faves!
