Bass with fisherman by RandyHand Bass with fisherman by RandyHand
So here's the bass piece with the boat, fisherman etc. all assembled and colored. It was really challenging to get everything figured out. From floating the bass off the base (3/8 inch all thread) to getting just the right steel rods to poke out of the fins and in to the bottom of the boat. I did a total count of all the pieces that were moulded separately and then glued and apoxied together and it came to 18. I was happy with how it all came together and in about an hour I'll find out if the client is happy as well. Hope you all like it!

Whenever I went fishing as a kid I had the same expression as that fish...
This is incredible Randy! The way you've engineered it so damn clever. Would love to see a photo of the breakdown of parts if you took one.

Thanks so much Jamie!
The next one I have made up, I'll definitely post some pics of the parts and the process.
That's funny you had the same expression as the fish when you went fishing...must have been pretty bored huh?...ha haha.
Have an incredible weekend my friend!
Take care

No worries Randy!
That would be great if you can next time. would love to see the process.
Hehe, yeah, I never enjoyed fishing all that much. Used it as an excuse to get out of the house and away from the folks for a day. Spent most of the time scribbling in a sketchpad or playing on one those LCD game things... which made so much racket probably scared away most of the fish, heehee..
Hope you're having a kick ass weekend too!

Fishing is definitely an acquired taste at times. :)
If they aren't biting I get pretty agitated. Especially if someone else is getting them and I'm not.
Been quite a few years since I've gone though.
Have a great week Jamie!
Take care

I got really lucky on that base. I've had it for quite a few years in storage and was hoping it would be the right size for it and it really came together because of it.
Always great to hear from you my friend!

Heh heh...I would stop fishing too if this was under me.
I very rarely watch reality shows but found myself watching River Monsters last night.
Catching any of those fish would cure me of fishing entirely.

Thanks for liking it!
Take care

Hehe, someone's eating well tonight... :evillaugh:
I be might jumping to conclusions here, but my money's on the fish. The fun bit is you don't know yet, so there's that promise of an epic fight in the air. *sniff sniff* It smells good. Looks good too.

I'm hoping he's a 'catch and release' kind of guy IF he is successful.

Lols, love this piece, a combination of the bored fisherman and that one in a million chance that he will never forget.

Awesome stuff mate!

It was a tough one to engineer but I'm really pleased with how it came out.
The client went nuts over it so I was happy.
Thanks again my friend!

That must be the best part, even if you like it, getting to see the expression of joy on the face of client must be really heart warming.

It really is.
I'm always the most critical of my own work and there's things that bug me no matter what, but his reaction took all those things away.
You'd swear he just adopted a puppy. It was awesome.

This is so fantastic! My dad is an avid fisherman and this reminds me of him. We would always tease about big fish dancing just out of reach. I'm sure your client will be thrilled! I love the expressions as well.

hahaha ah wow I didnt realize this was going to become a part of a larger scene with a fisherman too! That poor unsuspecting fisherman...its either going to be the greatest day of his life (for the biggest catch EVER) or the worse day of his life (he becomes fish bait) :lmao: BUt yeah it turned out very nice and you did a great job hiding the metal rods that are keeping it all together. It really looks like its just floating and balancing freely from each other. Great job! :D

It really was a challenge to get it to look like it does.
I have a feeling the fisherman is going to get the worse end of the deal...hee hee.
I was really happy with the reaction of the client last night. He freaked out when he saw it.
Now I miss having it in the studio. Gonna have to cast another one for myself I think.
Thanks again!

Brilliant work, Randy! I absolutely love the humor you put into your pieces. It works amazingly well with your skill at depicting animals that have the most wonderful balance of naturalism and caricature.

Hope the client is pleased with it, because it's a marvelous sculpture.
